Wallpapering has come back into fashion recently after being shunned for a number of years in favour of painted walls. The beauty of wallpaper is that it can cover uneven walls and even ceilings which if you live in an older property and cannot afford to have a room replastered is a bonus. Wall papering is easy if you follow a few tips and pointers from the experts.
Firstly, and most importantly is preparation. To ensure a smooth finish you should remove any flaking paint or old wallpaper so that the surface you are wallpapering onto is as smooth as possible. Fill and then sand any holes or cracks in the wall then clean with sugar soap to ensure the wall is free of any grease.
Plan out roughly how you are going to wallpaper each wall by measuring the width of the paper and measuring the wall. Always paper into the corners not around them as they may not be straight. Use a plumb bob or spirit level to get a straight line and paper from this line. You may need to draw lines in a few places around the room.
Make sure that you apply plenty of paste to the paper when you have cut them roughly to size and once on the wall smooth down with a dry brush for a smooth finish.
