As homes are getting smaller, storage is at more of a premium than ever before. Spaces are cosier, rooms are more open plan and it isn’t always easy to incorporate more storage. Here are some tips:
- Use built in furniture wherever you can. This will use all available space to its full potential. It is likely to cost more, but you are paying for the quality and convenience that it will provide. Built in kitchens are especially useful as you can include clever storage options inside cupboards and drawers. This could be anything from pull-out food storage units to recycling bins.
- Add shelving. This requires no floor space, so it’s an excellent option for people living in smaller houses or flats. It’s cheap and convenient to buy and fit shelves so anybody will be able to do it in their home.
- Purchase attractive storage boxes and containers. You won’t need to worry about hiding these away, as you can make them into a part of the room. Put them on shelves to hide the contents or buy larger ones that you can simply stack against the walls.
- Buy furniture that will help you to save space. Choose pieces that have hidden storage, or that can be easily folded away to make them more versatile. Many tables are now expandable, so you can use them as a desk or dining room table as required.
