If you live in a Victorian, Edwardian or other period property, chances are you are keen on keeping it in its original condition as much as possible. It’s understandable you would want to keep period features, as this is what gives a house its charm and is probably one of the things that made you fall in love with it in the first place. These are some features you could focus on:
- Windows. If you have sash windows, you may need new ones fitting as they get older. Choose wooden sashes and have them made to suit your property.
- Plastering. Decorative and fibrous plastering inside and out can be maintained by skilled specialist plasterers.
- Victorian boot scrapers. These are often set into the brickwork of Victorian terraces and are a great feature you should strive to maintain.
- Fireplaces. Even if they no longer house a working fire, hearths and fireplaces are beautiful character features.
