Summer might feel like it’s a long way away at the moment, but in terms of the time you have to make home improvements, summer isn’t that far away at all. If you would love to have a lighter, brighter home that feels more summery, now is the time to start putting in the work. Start thinking about the home improvements you can make ready for the sunny weather.

If your home is generally quite dull, why not consider a skylight? These are most often used in extensions or single story buildings, but depending on the design of your home, there is a lot that can be done with a skylight or rooflight. Natural light can be very beneficial, helping you to feel more awake, more alert and generally more happy, as well as helping to keep your home light and well insulated.

Perhaps you’d like to install a skylight but don’t have the right kind of space? If this is the case, think about a Suntube. These are designed to bring light into hard-to-reach spaces, such as awkwardly-shaped rooms or stairwells. They will give you lots of flexibility and allow you to improve the ambience of your home very simply and easily.

If you are considering changing your windows, choose a design that is as big as the space will allow. If it’s a new front door you would like, choose one that has a pane of glass in it. This is an excellent way to let in some extra light, though it may be advisable to get frosted glass so that thieves can’t see into your home.

If you don’t want to make any big architectural changes, consider a lick of paint and a new carpet. Select colours that will make your property feel more spacious, choosing light pastels, creams etc. You will be so happy you made the decision come summer.
